Guide to Cleaning Silver .925 Jewelry

.925 Silver, also known as Sterling Silver, is the jewelry quality standard around the world. The alloy consists of 92.5% silver, hence Silver 925, with the remaining 7.5% as copper.

.925 Silver is a favoured choice for jewelry because its durable, bright and hypoallergenic. All jewelry is casted in Toronto locally by a trusted jewelry house.

General Maintenance

Depending on how often you wear your silver jewelry, will depend on the way you care for it.

If your pieces are worn daily, it will require little maintenance as the daily actions of washing your hands cleans the ring from sweats and oils.

However, if you are only wearing them as statement pieces occasionally, then it is important to be informed on how to store it properly. Refer to Cleaning and Storing below.

What you (should) avoid

  • It is not recommended to wear your jewelry in the swimming pool, sauna or jacuzzi.
  • Remove while working with harsh chemicals as they can damage the surface and cause discolouration; until restored.
  • Apply beauty products or sunscreen prior to wearing your jewelry to minimize contact with the silver. Give it a good wash at the end of the day.
  • It's best to remove your jewelry during physical activity as sweat contains acid and salts that can tarnish the silver. Additionally, rough handing can scratch or dent the silver.

Cleaning and Storing

This is the most safe and effective way to clean your Silver 925 jewelry.

Materials Needed:
- Mild dish soap
- Warm Water
- Soft cloth or Microfiber cloth
- Soft-bristled toothbrush (optional)
- Silver polishing cloth (optional)

Steps:

  1. Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water in a small bowl.
  2. Soak for the jewelry for 5-10 minutes in the soap mixture.
  3. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush or cloth to gently scrub the jewelry.
  4. Rinse under cool water removing soap residue.
  5. Thoroughly dry using a soft or microfibre cloth.
  6. Optional - polish with a silver polishing cloth. Be mindful of over polishing as you can wear down the silver and remove the added patina.

Storage:

When not in use, simply store in a closed, cool and dry environment. To prevent oxidation, minimize air contact by sealing wrapped silver in airtight bags along with an anti-tarnish strip (black square tab included in every purchase).

Frequently asked questions

Why is my silver jewelry turning into different colours?

When you begin to see discolouration, this is a sign of tarnishing/oxidization. This is the outcome of metal reacting to oxygen. This process can be slowed or accelerated based on how you store your jewelry. If left in a humid or exposed environment, your silver pieces can tarnish faster. If this happens, your piece simply needs to be repolished.

What is the return policy?

Upon receiving your order, you have 30 days to return with a full refund as long as the purchased piece is in unworn condition. Refund requests will not be made if the piece has been physically altered from its originally sold state, i.e if it has been scratched.

When will I get my order?

One of a kind pieces are ready to ship. You can expect it to arrive promptly once shipped. Made to order pieces will have a lead time (time to actually create, cast and polish the piece), plus the shipping time. So typically made to order will have a 1-2 week lead time BEFORE the item is shipped.

Where are your products made?

I am a one person team that works with local casting houses in Toronto. Every piece at every part of the process is made in Toronto. The material is sourced by the casting house.
